We’ve compiled a list of inexpensive ways to make the most of the season without leaving your home.

Tic Tac Toe

Get creative! All you need is a few rocks, a big piece of wood and some paint. Or use a few tree branches in the grass. It doesn't take much to create a tic tac toe board and keep the kids busy for an afternoon.

Foam Noodles

There are so many ways to use these cheap, foam noodles other than floating in a pool.

  1. Obstacle Course- Duct-tape six rings to one another, then tape them to thicker (3 1/2-inch-wide) hollow pool noodle posts. You can lay it down to make an agility jump or stand it up to make it a target to throw balls through.
  2. Ring Toss- tape two ends together to make a circle. And cut one about 1 foot in length. You will want to get a stick or a stake to out in the ground to hold your 1ft section upright.
  3. Noodle Fishing- Cut a noodle into pieces about 2 inches thick. Then you will want to cut those in half. If you want to decorate to look like fish grab some pipe cleaners for the fins. Stick a paper clip at the “head” of the fish and you can make the “hook” magnetic or just open a paper clip so you can loop it through the hole.
  4. Water toy- tape one end really good and poke hole all over. Stick a water hose in the other end and watch it become a sprinkle.
  5. Race track- Cut a noodle in half then glue the two halves together on the side with the hollowed center facing up.  You will want to put it on an incline to the toy cars will roll down on their own.

Backyard Water Games

  1. Giant water balloon kerplunk– You’ll want a couple tomato cages, some stick, plastic wrap and of course water balloons.  Stack the cages together and push all your sticks through. Wrap the sides about the sticks with the plastic wrap to keep the balloons from falling out the sides then fill with water balloons.
  2. Sponge Splash Ball-  Grab some sponges (recommend different colored) and cut them into half inch-thick strips. Pile them together and tie them together with string or use a rubber band. Stick them in a bowl a water and have a great time.
