Exploring the Edward Ball Nature Trail at UWF

One of my family’s favorite spots for a quick hike in Pensacola is the Edward Ball Nature Trail, located on the University of West Florida (UWF) campus. This 0.9-mile wooded trail offers an easy, scenic walk through a cypress swamp, ending at a peaceful boardwalk overlooking a small lake. It’s well-maintained and even accommodates a stroller, making it a great choice for families with young kids.

The entrance to the trail is located by Parking Lot G, just before the UWF Commons. While the main boardwalk is perfect for a relaxing walk, there are additional offshoot trails for those wanting to explore on bike or with pets—just be careful, as it’s easy to get lost back there.

We love bringing lunch for a picnic at the boardwalk and always remember to bring something to feed the turtles—you’ll see plenty of them swimming near the end of the trail. Keep an eye out, though, because we’ve spotted alligators many times in the water here.

The Edward Ball Nature Trail is managed by UWF and is a great way to experience Pensacola’s natural beauty in a short, one-mile outing. Whether you're looking for a peaceful stroll, a spot for wildlife watching, or a little adventure, this trail is a must-visit!
